About Pricila

Pricila Guzmán-Serrano was born and raised in Hayward California. She is fortunate enough to still live in her childhood home. She studied Studio Art at San Francisco State and got a minor in Comic Studies. She graduated in May of 2024.

Pricila spends most of her time trying to devour stories. Whether it’s a book she just discovered (or re-read), a movie (most likely animated), or music she has on loop for months (soundtracks are her favorite), once she is immersed in a story she will not be leaving it soon.

This love for stories has inspired her to create art revolving around the stories that allow her to feel seen and stories she has been trying to tell.

About My Art

Both my parents are Mexican immigrants and so, their primary language has always been Spanish. Therefore, while English dominates the world I navigate outside, Spanish reigns at home. I have always been in constant transition from one world to the other, much like reading one book one hour and being immersed in another the next. Living in these different worlds is a gift however, I strive to find the inbetween. The stories I create in my art ultimately reflect the worlds I choose to be in. I embody this theme of choice through consistently incorporating my mother in my work. She serves as a daily reminder that I possess the power of choice. My mother and fantasy worlds both help me recognize the power I already hold.

I miss the worlds I once visited when I was younger, the dreams I used to inhabit. There's an undeniable yearning in my work, a sense of nostalgia that tugs at the heartstrings and sends me on a journey of self-discovery, a quest to discover who I am and who I aspire to be. Whether through drawing, printmaking, or sculpture, my art has stories to share. I hope that when people view my work, they not only absorb the story I'm telling but also find a way to create their own narrative, to engage in their own quest.

Since I can remember, stories have given me a sense of purpose. Even when I didn’t entirely understand what I was feeling, stories provided me comfort as they allowed me to escape the real world and enter the boundless realms of imagination. I strive to infuse every piece of art I create with a narrative that serves to take those engaging with my work on a journey. This desire to hold onto the comfort stories provide stems from the two distinct worlds in my life.
